Stockport is marking Black History Month in October with a series of events.
Black History Month (BHM) celebrates the contributions made by black people around the world. It was started by Carter G. Woodson in America in 1926.
BHM has grown into an international celebration which embraces all
minority ethnic groups, educating people about the lives and
achievements of Stockport’s diverse communities.
Stockport joined in the national BHM celebrations in 1998 and BHM has
grown into a vital part of the civic calendar.
