Kind-hearted schoolchildren in Cheadle Hulme rallied round one of their friends whose mother died of cancer by raising funds for charity.
Pupils at St James’ Catholic High School sold raffle tickets for two giant hampers, generating £635 for St Ann’s Hospice where Bernadette Murray was treated.
Her son Daniel, aged 14, was overwhelmed by the gesture from fellow pupils in Year 10 in memory of his mum who died in July.

A total of 39 youngsters sold tickets
after mass at St Ann’s Catholic Church

and raffled off the hampers.
Bernadette had a strong religious faith and the pupils felt it was fitting to ask churchgoers to help their fundraising initiative.
The school also made a separate donation of almost £400 to the hospice at the end of the summer term when pupils made donations rather than buying teachers presents.
