Following the approval of Greater Manchester’s ten boroughs of plans for a Clean Air Zone for the city-region, a consultation is underway on two amendments to proposals before it is implemented in 2022.
A consultation is taking place until October 13th to make two alterations to plans to clarity the Clean Air Zone, which will see the most polluting commercial vehicles face a daily charge for using Greater Manchester’s roads.
This consultation is seeking residents’ thoughts on the proposed inclusions of M1/ M1 Special Purpose vehicles with a body type of ‘motorcaravan’ and sections of the A575 and A580 at Worsley within the Clean Air Zone charging scheme.
This follows the public conversation which took place last year, which identified that due to DVLA vehicle categories some motorhomes would be charged to drive within the GM Clean Air?Zone?and some would not. The proposed inclusion of?non-compliant?M1 / M1 Special Purpose?vehicles?with a body type of ‘motorcaravan’ within the charging scheme would ensure that all vehicles with a motorcaravan body type, which may look similar and have similar levels of emissions,?would?be treated equally.?
Meanwhile, the proposal to include the A575 and A580 at Worsley in the Clean Air Zone is a minor modification to the Clean Air Zone, with these roads only previously excluded due to issues with signage in this area – which have now been resolved.?
A Teams Live event is being held on 30th September at 10am-10.45am for anyone interested to drop-in and hear more about the consultation, which will include an opportunity for Q&A at the end. If this is of interest, you can join the session using this link.
The Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone will come into effect from May 2022. This will help to bring harmful nitrogen dioxide (NO?) within legal limits as soon as possible. Some categories of vehicles that do not meet emission standards will need to pay a daily charge (with some exemptions and discounts).
Businesses whose vehicles may be affected by the change may be able to access funding to support their transition to cleaner alternatives – find out more.
