Plans submitted for 134 new homes in Bredbury

Developer, Westchurch Homes, has submitted plans to build 134 new homes on an approximately 13.3-acre parcel of land off Shakespeare Road, Bredbury.

Plans for the site have been scaled down slightly following a pre-application consultation in July 2025 that originally proposed an additional 10 homes. While the site is currently undeveloped and used for hay, it is classified as a ‘grey belt’ site, making it suitable for development with 50% affordable housing provision, although developers are proposing for 100% affordable homes provision. The site has also previously been earmarked by Stockport Council as suitable for housing development in its draft Local Plan, published in November 2025.

Westchurch Homes is in discussion with housing provider Mosscare St Vincent’s with regard to the scheme, and planning documents propose a mix of 75 social rent homes and 59 shared ownership properties.

The developer is proposing a mix of one- to four-bedroom properties across a mix of detached and semi-detached houses, as well as apartment and mews units, up to a maximum of two-and-a-half storeys.

The planning application for the Bredbury development was prepared by Maybern on behalf of Westchurch Homes; MCK Associates are archictects on the scheme.
