Around 1,500 visitors turned out to enjoy Stockport’s 17th annual Chadkirk Festival and Well Dressing event organised by Stockport Council held over the weekend.
Visitors were able to enjoy a vast array of entertainment ranging from musical performances from the Tin’stle Bell’s and Stockport Silver Band to fascinating bird of prey flying displays, mind boggling balloon modelling shows, dance and martial art performances.
There was also a range of stalls selling hand crafted goods and local produce including bags, jewellery, paintings, wood turning, wonderful cakes and other delicacies.
This year’s festival also saw the unveiling of a beautiful new stained glass window which has been commissioned by the Friends of Chadkirk who work tirelessly to continually improve the Chapel and the estate.
St Chad Well Dressing.
The theme of this year’s Well Dressing, created each year by a dedicated team of volunteers, features the new stained glass window in the Chapel and celebrates the Diamond Jubilee of The Queen’s Coronation.
The Deputy Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Mike Wilson, who officially opened the 2013 event, said:
“Chadkirk Festival is a fantastic, well-loved community event which goes from strength to strength each year. I would like to congratulate Chadkirk Well Dressing volunteers for another amazing design and thank the Friends of Chadkirk for the beautiful new strained glass window and their dedicated work to improve Stockport’s smallest visitor attraction.”
