Stockport Council has been awarded £364,000 of Government funding to fix potholes in the borough.
The announcement follows a competition where councils could apply for a share of £168 million, 148 authorities applied for funding and all will receive a share.
Stockport Council will use its share to repair potholes, or ensure that potholes don’t appear in the first place. This will complement the £100m investment that Stockport has committed to roads and highway repairs over the next eight years, as part of its Highway Investment programme of major maintenance works on roads and pavements.
Councillor Martin Candler, Executive Member for Communities and Sustainability at Stockport Council, said:
“As part of our Investing in Stockport initiative, the Council is committed to maintaining Stockport’s roads and footpaths to help develop stronger communities. This funding will be of great benefit to the borough, allowing us to make further repairs and improve journeys for the people of Stockport.”
As part of the bid, all repairs to the highway have to be completed by the end of March 2015. In addition the Government has asked all authorities awarded funding to publish quarterly updates so that local residents can see how many miles of resurfacing have been undertaken in their area.
