Stockport Council wants to hear people’s views on proposals to expand a number of primary schools across the borough to meet the rising demand for primary school places in Stockport.
The Council has a statutory duty to provide enough primary school places and, to continue to do so in the future, it needs to expand some primary schools.
The following schools are being proposed for expansion by September 2015:
- Arden Primary School.
- Greave Primary School.
- St Elisabeth’s CE Primary School.
Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said:
“The Council is committed to providing the highest quality of education for all Stockport’s children within the best possible learning environments. We want to ensure that every child has the educational opportunity to reach their full potential.
“We also need to make the best use of funding available to match available places with future demand. I would encourage interested parties to give their views on the range of proposals we have put forward to expand primary schools in order to meet the future demand for places.”
The schools proposed for expansion have been identified by the Council on the basis that:
- They are located where there is need.
- They are good schools with the capacity to manage an increase in size.
- They are willing to assist in providing extra places.
- The project should provide good value for money.
Interested parties are encouraged to give their views on the range of proposals which can be viewed at www.stockport.gov.uk/haveyoursay
The following drop-in sessions will also be held at the schools for people to give their views:
- Arden Primary School – 5th December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm and 10th December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm.
- Greave Primary School – 2nd December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm and 12th December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm.
- St Elisabeth’s CE Primary School – 11th December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm and 18th December, from 3.00pm to 6.30pm.
The consultation begins on Monday 25th November and closes on Monday 6th January 2014 following which the findings will be considered by the Council’s Executive in February 2014.
