Stockport Council’s Hat Works museum will be launching the second collection of hats to come out of the exciting ‘Making Headway’ project.
This ‘Ready To Wear’ collection will be unveiled on 20th November and can be seen alongside the couture collection launched earlier this year.
This unique exhibition has emerged from Stockport Council’s Museum Services aim to position Stockport as a centre for contemporary millinery and creativity. A fitting vision for the town that was once the centre of a thriving hatting industry.
The Making Headway exhibition has been developed by working with 13 of the UK’s best emerging millinery talents, selected to take part in the project through open competition. The milliners have been undertaking a series of millinery master classes and professional development workshops as well as being given unparalleled access to Stockport’s vast museum collections.
Councillor Patrick McAuley, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said:
“We are immensely proud of what the milliners have achieved during the course of this project. The two hat collections are sensational and quite unique in their style. Hatting has long been synonymous with Stockport culture and we are immensely proud of our hatting roots. Stopfordians and visitors from across Greater Manchester and beyond should come and enjoy this fantastic display.”
Everyone is invited to the evening preview event on Thursday 20th November at 6.30pm. If you would like to attend email bookings.hatworks@stockport.gov.uk or call 0161 474 2399.
For the very first time at Hat Works all the hats in the exhibition are for sale giving visitors a wonderful opportunity to buy a unique, handcrafted couture or RTW hat inspired by Stockport and created by an emerging millinery star.
Making Headway will show at Hat Works until 24th May 2015. Admission is free. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00am to 5.00pm, Sunday and Bank Holidays 11.00am to 5.00pm. For more information call 0161 474 2399 or visit stockport.gov.uk/makingheadway
