Stockport Council has been awarded funding from the Big Lottery which will be used to enhance the wellbeing of residents.
The funding will be used to support community based projects that encourage healthier eating, physical activity and positive mental health – part of the Council’s Food & Fitness for Families project.
The project focuses on improving healthy eating through cook and eats courses, weight management programmes and accredited nutrition training.

The project also includes some physical activity and mental health support, so that families receive a package of support to improve their overall health.
Activities will focus on the Brinnington, Lancashire Hill, Adswood, Bridgehall, Offerton, Shaw Heath, Cale Green, Hempshaw Lane and Reddish areas of Stockport.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said:
“We very much welcome this additional funding which will allow us to build on the positive work of the Council’s Food & Fitness for Families project.
“This is a five year project which has so far helped around 3,600 borough residents to eat healthier and improve their wellbeing. The additional funding will help us engage with and improve the wellbeing of a further 750 people.”
The Council will receive £80,000 from the Big Lottery towards the Food & Fitness for Families project.
