Housing scheme for Stockport homeless reaches 100 milestone
A project to help homeless people in Stockport to find housing is celebrating a major milestone after securing accommodation for one hundred local people.
At a time when social housing is in short supply, the Homefinder project (part funded by CRISIS), led by homelessness charity H3, helps homeless people to overcome the barrier of finding a deposit for a private landlord by offering a cashless guarantee in its place, known as a ‘bond’.
Tenants are then able to live in stable accommodation until they have saved for the deposit themselves.
Dominic Walker, HomeFinder Scheme Assistant said “It’s always rewarding to help someone move into a place they can call home, many for the first time who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to access the private rented sector.’
Single people who are either homeless or threatened with homelessness may be eligible for this programme and can see the H3 website for further details”.
Sheila Mason, H3 Trustee added: “A lot of people would have very limited options of getting rehoused without Homefinder. It’s brilliant to see a scheme like this get such a good uptake and to have helped so many people since its foundation.”
