Stockport Homes’ latest shared ownership development on Turves Road, Cheadle Hulme has been officially opened as guests included The Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, Cllr Sue Derbyshire (Leader of Stockport Council), Mark Hunter MP, Cllr Paul Porgess and Cllr June Somekh.
The development on Turves Road was part funded by the Homes and Communities agency (HCA) and has seen Stockport Homes work in partnership with Stockport Council to deliver three two bedroom and eight three bedroom houses, all built to Code of Sustainable Homes Level 3. Homeowners will also be able to save up to £130 per year on their electricity bills thanks to solar voltaic panels installed on the roof of each property.

On his visit to Turves Road, The Mayor of Stockport commented,
“It is great to see these new shared ownership homes, they are a completely different concept to anything I have seen. They are modern, clean, spacious and well designed, with safe areas for children to play. Shared ownership is the future of housing for many and the work here is a triumph by Stockport Homes.”
Mark Hunter MP said,
“This whole development is a good news story; the Scouts and the local community have a new and improved meeting place, the previous dated and unkempt hall has been removed, and eleven new, affordable homes have been built. Shared ownership schemes are a brilliant way to help people to get onto the property ladder, overcoming what can be an extremely daunting amount of money that is required for a first deposit.”
Two families that have already moved into the houses were excited about the launch and for others to move in and were pleased with how easy the process was.
Matthew Smith said,
“We’re really happy as we didn’t think we would be able to buy a home in Cheadle Hulme, and this development means we can afford a house were we want to live and it’s a beautiful house.”
Sahdia Barber was also full of praise saying,
“It was a really straight forward and easy buying process and I felt I was kept up-to-date the whole way through. We bought the house because of the area and as we are first time buyers it’s hard to get on to the property ladder. Shared ownership made it so much easier. I am looking forward to growing old here.”
Roger Philips, Chair of Stockport Homes’ Board said,
“It was great to see that all the hard work involved in this scheme has resulted in such high quality affordable homes. It was lovely to meet some of the new residents and see how they are enjoying their new homes and community.”
Deborah McLaughlin, the Homes and Community Agency’s North West Executive Director, said,
“It is fantastic to see the completion of this development, which will deliver much-needed new homes for local people, and is a prime example of the valuable, targeted support that the HCA is able to provide.”
