Stockport Council is working in partnership with other agencies to offer a series of activities to promote safety awareness as part of Stockport Child Safety Week.
The key theme of this year’s events is ‘You can be a safety hero’, which runs from Monday 24th to Sunday 30th June.
People don’t need to be superhuman to be a safety hero. The small things that people do, day in day out, are the things that can prevent children suffering serious harm.
People can do a few simple things such as moving cleaning products to prevent poisoning or moving a hot drink to prevent serious burns, and see how quickly they become everyday habits.
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“These may only be little steps to take but they can make a big difference to children’s safety. I would urge all families and carers with children under five to contact their local Council run Sure Start Children’s Centre to find out more about child safety activities being run in their area.”
Events being held across the borough as part of Stockport Child Safety Week include First Aid for parents, car seat safety checks and fire safety sessions. Many of these activities will be held at Council run Sure Start Children’s Centres which are located across the borough.
People can also find out about free Home Fire Risk Assessments at their local Children’s Centre throughout Child Safety week.
The week-long series of activities will come to a close on Saturday 29th June with a joint Child Safety and Breastfeeding Awareness event outside Primark at Mersey Square in Stockport between 9.00am and 5.00pm.
