Robinsons Brewery has seen the doors reopened on The Pig & Whistle in Cartmel following a major refurbishment, as the Stockport family brewer continues investment in its pubs across the North-west.
The new-look pub on the edge of the Lake District is the latest of the brewer’s estate to undergo a refurbishment, with November having seen two Stockport pubs reopen their doors following investment by Robinsons: Marple’s Ring O’Bells, and The Flying Coach in Hazel Grove.
The quaint stone fronted pub was taken over by hospitality duo Dean and Steph (pictured below) in 2024 is now unrecognisable after an eight-week closure and refurbishment.

Retaining its original cosy village character, the pub is brighter with brand new log burners, and beautiful bar and restaurant areas. The decor references local history, featuring horse racing memorabilia, such as local jockey Jimmy Moffatt’s old racing silks, to artwork sourced from Barrow archives.
A new menu features small plates alongside pub classics, gourmet burgers and sharing plates. Drinks feature cask ales such as ‘Cartmel’s Galloper’s Gold’ and rotational craft beers, to over 16 cocktails, mocktails, and a secret menu.
The team behind the new look pub have firmly established themselves in the Cartmel community. Reflecting on the opening day, Robinsons Pub Partner, Dean Richardson said:
“On the day of reopening, we were opening the pub at 4pm, at 3.50pm there was a queue down the street of people waiting to come and have a drink and see the venue. The support from other local businesses has just been amazing too. From gifts, to opening night burritos, it’s just been amazing to feel the support from our local community. And we’re delighted to be re-open, and hear the incredible feedback.”
