Stockport is gearing up for a landmark moment in 2026 as the new Marple Community Hub becomes a reality, and races towards completion.
The striking new building is already reshaping the skyline, signalling the arrival of a modern community space that residents across the borough have craved.
The pool is now clearly visible, the roof is on and the community café area is taking shape with the ground floor concrete slab being poured.
The £20 million project – supported by the Government’s Levelling Up Fund – will bring a top-class community facility to Marple Memorial Park, combining a modern library, a five-lane swimming pool, 60-station fitness suite, café, and a new home for Marple Clinic, and is due to open in Autumn 2026.
The development replaces the former swimming pool, which closed in 2018 for safety reasons, and follows extensive public consultation that led to planning approval and the relocation of local services.
Once complete, the hub will provide a key focal point for leisure, learning, health and wellbeing in Marple and the surrounding area.
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Housing, said:
“We’re now in the year where the Marple Community Hub opens, and excitement is really building. This project will bring huge benefits to the town – modern leisure facilities, improved health services, and a welcoming community space at the heart of Marple.
“You can already see the hub transforming the skyline, and it’s set to become a landmark building that residents will be proud of.
“This is a major investment in happier, healthier lives and a fantastic example of the high-quality, community-led regeneration happening across our borough.”
Construction continues at pace as teams work on the exterior and prepare for the internal fit?out that will take place throughout 2026.
Alongside the new building, wider improvements to active travel routes and the surrounding public realm will ensure the hub is accessible, sustainable and fully integrated into the park and town centre.
As part of the ongoing work, the Marple Clinic has moved to Brabyns Brow (Upper) Middlers car park.
