According to local Chartered Surveying Group Fairhust Estates Limited, retail is now finally beginning to recover, although town centre challenges remain, despite government initiatives.
FEL report that construction in the provinces remains patchy and commercial activity has yet to fulfil the promising signs of recovery shown earlier in the year. Residential development, however, is growing rapidly in many areas and house prices continue to increase to support this while planning consent can be a lengthy process for various reasons, not least due to lack of staff and protracted turn-around times in local planning authorities.
At a more local level, Managing Director of Fairhurst Estates John Thornley (pictured left) says that ‘he and the team continue in the quest to provide great customer service, delivered by a professional and knowledgeable team:
“We all have a part to play in the Fairhurst team. We have recently widened our Business Development activity: having an enquiring mind and listening (easy to say but hard to do) being the key. Our growth areas this year include helping companies and individuals with dilapidation issues and project managing a variety of building projects. Our sister company Red Rock FM, continues to grow by taking away and dealing with day to day repair and compliance issues.
“We are proud to be professional surveyors, whether RICS or CIOB, and will continue to advocate the need for our services.”
As a founding member, Fairhurst are fervent supporters of Marketing Stockport in their quest to connect and promote the diverse and successful business community in Stockport:
“We maintain our support of local initiatives, such as Marketing Stockport; a great gathering place for the many businesses of Stockport.
“We are constantly advised that social media is the way forward. Indeed, if you listen to some people, it’s the only way forward! We are not so sure but yes, we have a LinkedIn company page, Twitter and e-bulletins.
We also have a social conscience and see it as our duty to put something back into our community; whether by doing some practical work for charity or by fundraising. Later this month several of our staff will be taking part in a sponsored Zipwire over Snowdonia for a very worthwhile charity, Newlife Foundation. The charity has been nominated by our colleague, Emily-Jane Lewis, as it has helped her son, Noah, by providing him with specialist equipment.”
