The Manchester Airport Choir is celebrating 75 years of Manchester with a special anniversary charity concert at the Bridgewater Hall in aid of Medcare, the airport’s charity partner.
Tickets are available now for the concert which will take place on September 7 from 7.30pm, with special guest presenter Gordon Burns and guest singer Ren Harvieu, who has just recorded a song with Take That star, Mark Owen.
The Manchester Airport Choir and other workplace choirs from Severn Trent Water, NHS Lewisham and Bristol Royal Mail will be entertaining guests for an evening of song and celebration.
Manchester Airport Choir was first established in spring 2012 for a BBC TV series and is made up of Manchester Airport staff from across the site. They sing a mix of songs, from old classics, modern numbers and even a few in Swahili!
George Lane from the Airport Choir said:
“This is the first concert of this magnitude that Manchester Airport Choir has put together so we’re very excited about it; it will be a great evening and one not to be missed!
“All proceeds from the night will go to Medcare, the airport’s charity partner, which will help improve the lives of thousands of Ugandan children. Tickets are just £13 each plus we also have VIP tickets on offer for £35 and we’re hoping to fill every seat. The VIP package includes circle seats, refreshments, access to an exclusive auction and the chance to meet the evening’s special guests.”
Medcare are a UK charity that runs the Wellspring Children’s Medical Centre in rural Uganda. Further funds are needed to expand the Wellspring Children’s Medical Centre in Kamutuuza, Uganda. The first part opened in 2008 and provides general health care, vaccinations, and acute malaria care to some of the most vulnerable children in Africa, together with sponsorship of children with HIV/AIDS and those with disabilities. Since then it has successfully treated over 20,000 children and work is currently underway to improve the facilities further.
Andrew Cowan, Chief Operating Officer of Manchester Airports Group (MAG) pictured below, said:
“The choir are a fantastic example of airport staff working together to
both have fun and help others. This concert will raise much-needed
funds to help us continue with our work with Medcare in Uganda as
well as show-casing the choir’s exceptional talent.
“They have already enjoyed success appearing at weddings,
corporate functions, community events and even tea with the Lord
Mayor of Manchester since getting together last year, so the 75th
anniversary concert is set to be their biggest and best performance
yet.”
Manchester Airport officially celebrated its 75th anniversary in June
this year. The original 1938 route network included the exotic
hotspots of Western Super-Mare, Croydon and Doncaster whereas
Manchester now serves close to 200 international destinations
worldwide and sees over 20million passengers travel through the
airport each year.
