Stockport’s Merseyway Shopping Centre is welcoming the town centre’s first permanent florist to open in several years with the signing of independent florist, Sweet Bud.
Sweet Bud will open its first store this Autumn in the open-air section of the centre which has recently undergone a wave of investment and improvements. These include newly enhanced public realm and the arrival of major brands including Poundland and JD, cultural and community hub, Stockroom, with Søstrene Grene also set to open later this year.
Founded by floral designer Olivia Woodward, Sweet Bud has been working with wedding and event clients since 2023. The business is branching out from its studio base in Levenshulme to open a full retail store in the heart of Stockport, offering fresh flowers, houseplants, dried arrangements, vases and same-day and next-day bouquet deliveries. Olivia said:
“I’ve loved Stockport for years and seen it transform into such a vibrant, exciting place. There’s a real buzz here with more independents opening all the time and with Stockport town centre currently without a florist, it felt like the perfect home for Sweet Bud. The support of the Merseyway team, along with amazing neighbours like Søstrene Grene and Stockroom, made the decision even easier!
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Sweet Bud to Stockport. Their arrival is another fantastic example of independent businesses choosing Stockport as the place to grow and I wish them every success.
“With Stockroom already proving a huge success and a strong mix of independents and national names opening in Merseyway, we’re building a town centre full of variety and vibrancy.
“It’s this dynamic offer that is making Stockport a destination of choice for shopping, culture and leisure – and it’s a clear sign that our £1bn regeneration is delivering – attracting investment, supporting enterprise and creating a place where people want to shop, visit and spend time.”
Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at Merseyway, said:
“We can’t wait to welcome Sweet Bud to Merseyway. The arrival of a high-quality independent florist will further enhance our tenant mix and demonstrates the growing strength of Stockport’s retail offer. This letting reflects the appeal of the newly improved open-air section of the centre, which continues to attract both national brands and distinctive independents. Sweet Bud will bring something fresh and creative to Merseyway and we’re confident it will be well received by our visitors.”
Sweet Bud opens at Merseyway this Autumn, with flower delivery available across Stockport and Manchester.
The letting was secured by Barker Proudlove, acting on behalf of Stockport Council.
