HMRC have launched a self-assessment amnesty for those who yet need to complete their forms in previous tax years.
An opportunity has arisen for self-assessment taxpayers who have failed to submit tax returns to settle their arrears in a new HMRC campaign.
Last week saw the start of the campaign, which is aimed at people who have received a self-assessment tax return or notice to complete a tax return for any year up to 2011/12, but are yet to take action.
HMRC will be writing directly to several thousand people it has identified using intelligence-gathering software, before following up with calls to many of them.
When participants have indicated to the HMRC that they would like to take part in this campaign, they have until 15th October 2013 to complete and submit a return and pay tax and National Insurance Contributions (NIC’s) that they owe.
