The Forum Theatre in Romiley has a varied line-up of shows and performances on its Spring schedule for 2022, showcasing work from a range of genres and eras.
On Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March, the theatre welcomes Tennessee Williams’ drama, The Glass Menagerie. Though devastated by her husband’s abandonment, Amanda Wingfield remains committed to the dream of building a good life for her children, Tom and Laura. However, this belief soon opposes her children’s own wants and ambitions. Tom cannot help but feel suffocated by his life in St Louis, and Laura is close to shattering under the pressure from her mother, who believes that to ensure her daughter’s future, she must find her a suitable husband. As tensions build, the fine thread that connects dignity to desperation is pulled to breaking point.
The following weekend, The Forum Theatre welcomes a brand new musical to the stage, Murder Ballad. A Downtown and Off-Broadway sensation, Murder Ballad was the must see theatre experience of 2013. Conceived by Jonathan Larson Award winner and two-time Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist, Julia Jordan, with book and lyrics by Jordan and music and lyrics by indie rock singer/songwriter, Juliana Nash, Murder Ballad is a steamy and fun thriller with a razor’s edge. Murder Ballad is the dramatic story of a love triangle gone wrong. The show focusses on Sara, an uptown girl who seems to have it all, but whose downtown past lingers enticingly and dangerously in front of her. The show plays from 24th to 26th March.
Rounding out March, NK Theatre Arts drama students take to the boards with a wonderful tribute to William Shakespeare with their Shakespeare Festival.
Spring will also see the theatre launch the first of its Film Forum events, kicking off with a special Easter presentation of HOP! including popcorn and an Easter Egg hunt for children, taking place on Saturday 16th April. This will be followed by the return to the big screen of The Empire Strikes Back: May the 4th be with you!
Stockport playwright Simon Stevens’ brilliant drama BLINDSIDED will be staged at The Forum Theatre from the 20th – 22nd April. The theatre finishes the month with the fantastic musical SISTER ACT which certainly needs no introduction as we welcome The East Cheshire Musical Theatre Company to the stage, performing from 26th – 30th April.
Also taking place this spring are dance performances from the Aimz Bolly Annual Dance Show, Freedom Dancers and The Sixties invasion.
