Following recent unrest in towns and cities across England, Tysers explains the specific rules that affect making an insurance claim when a business is disrupted by riots.
We’re deeply saddened by the recent events in Southport and in light of the unrest and rioting that has taken place in various parts of the UK.
Some businesses’ operations may have been disrupted by the violence, and businesses will need adhere to requirements under the Riot Compensation Act 2016 (RCA) to make sure that they are fairly compensated for any loss of earnings.
Claims must be submitted within 42 days of the riot ending.
Claims need to be reported as quickly as possible, adhering to the RCA time limit, and providing as much of the necessary supporting evidence as possible. In the event that this evidence isn’t immediately available, it can be submitted separately, but must be received by your insurer within 91 days of them receiving notification of the claim.
