Global chemicals firm, BASF, has appointed Lisa Kelly as its new Managing Director in the UK at its Stockport headquarters.
Kelly, who will be based at the firm’s office at Stockport Exchange in the town centre, will provide strategic leadership for BASF in the UK, supporting the company’s licence to operate and ensuring the business continues to contribute to the business’ long-term success.
Following eight successful years leading BTC UK & Ireland, BASF’s specialty chemicals distribution business and as a member of the BASF plc Leadership Team, Lisa brings more than 35 years of industry experience across technical, commercial and leadership roles since joining BASF in 1989. Her international career includes serving as North Europe Aroma Chemicals Manager in Switzerland before returning to the UK to lead several key business areas.
Commenting on her appointment, Lisa Kelly, said:
“I am delighted and honoured to take on this role at such a pivotal time for our sector. Chemistry is at the heart of many of the major challenges facing industry and society today — from achieving net zero and strengthening supply chain resilience, to enhancing competitiveness and enabling the technologies needed for a more sustainable future.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across BASF, peers from across the industry and policymakers to ensure that the UK remains a strong and valued contributor to the company’s future success.”
Lisa’s appointment marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman to serve as Managing Director of BASF plc and BASF Pharma (Callanish), the group’s UK-based companies. Her appointment reflects both her outstanding leadership credentials and BASF’s commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where diverse talent can thrive and succeed.
A passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Lisa has championed initiatives within BASF and across the wider chemicals sector, including serving as Chair of the British Coatings Federation’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She is also a member of the Smart Works Greater Manchester Alumni Group, where she supports the Stockport-based charity’s mission to help unemployed women develop the skills, confidence and career readiness needed to secure employment.
