After several weeks of careful planning, staff from MAN Diesel & Turbo UK’s (MDT-UK) Headquarters in Stockport completed a daunting 227-mile charity cycle challenge to the MDT-UK site in Colchester on Thursday, 19th September.
The challenge was organised to raise funds for the Walthew House Deaf and Blind Institute in Stockport, which is MDT-UK’s nominated charity for 2013.
A total of seven riders took part in the challenge, with the first rider setting off at 5.00 am from Stockport, and the last rider arriving in Colchester some fifteen and a half hours later.
MDT-UK’s intrepid cyclists (l to r) Paul Robinson, Peter Tunstall, Stuart Paterson, Peter Sixsmith, Ian Sharples, Jon Yorston and Keith Flamée) arriving at the company’s Colchester site at the end of their gruelling day.
The route saw the riders cycle through Buxton, Chesterfield, Newark, Spalding and Bury St. Edmunds. The weather was largely fine apart from one spell of heavy rain near Sleaford which caught Paul Robinson on his stretch of the challenge.
Staff in both Stockport and Colchester were able to keep in touch with the riders’ progress throughout the day by way of an on-line tracker and blog, which featured photos of the riders at various locations.
Sponsorship money is still being collected and counted with a final cheque due to be presented to the charity in the near future. MDT-UK staff involved in the challenge would like to thank everyone for their donations and support so far.

Even getting themselves into dangerous places along the way !
