Stockport Council is working with Signpost Stockport for Carers and Stockport FLAG to support Carers Rights Day on Friday 30th November.
The Signpost Stockport for Carers bus and an information stall will be outside Boots at Edgeley Shopping Centre from 10.00am to 3.00pm to raise awareness of the needs of carers and to ensure they know their rights.
This event will help raise awareness of potential benefits some carers may be missing out on.
Carers Rights Day also aims to provide support to all carers especially those who often don’t recognise themselves as carers. If you regularly provide care or intend to look after a relative, friend or neighbour then you are welcome to come along to the event.
Councillor Daniel Hawthorne, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Adult Care Services, said: “I’m pleased we are continuing to support Carers Rights Day by ensuring carers get the information and advice they need to claim benefits and access practical support.
“Carers looking after people affected by illness and disabilities can often not be claiming all the support that they are entitled to. I would encourage all carers to get further information on the support they receive, especially with the welfare changes coming into effect in 2013.”
