A report is being presented to Stockport Council’s Executive outlining the recommended next steps for the regeneration of Brinnington.
If the recommendations are approved, consultation regarding new housing and leisure facilities in the area will begin.
The proposals the Executive are being asked to consider are:
- The provision of new leisure facilities at a more central location, replacing the Life Leisure Lapwing centre. This was one of the outcomes of a borough-wide consultation on leisure facilities undertaken by the Council in 2011.
- The appointment of Countryside Properties as the preferred developer for new housing in Brinnington.
The Executive is also being asked to note the consultation regarding the proposed relocation of Castle Hill High School (SEN) from their current base in Brinnington to the site the former Offerton School. The consultation begins on Monday 18th March.
The Regeneration Plan for Brinnington was approved by the Council’s Executive in March 2011, following extensive consultation with residents and community groups.
Its aims are to deliver a range of new housing, provide high quality and accessible sports and leisure facilities, improve the retail offer, make improvements to the physical environment and access to, from and around the area.
The report will be considered by the Central Area Committee and a number of scrutiny committees, before being presented to the Executive on 2 April 2013.
