There have been more than 4.6 million confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and nearly 128,000 people have died, government figures show.
However, these figures include only people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus. 81.6% of adult population have had a 1st dose and 59.5% the 2nd dose. Everyone aged 18 and over are being invited to have a first jab and the focus has shifted to offer a second vaccine within 8 weeks. The average number of daily infections in the UK is rising in some areas, fuelled by the Indian variant, with over 9,284 new cases announced by the government as of 17th July.
The R value and growth rate in England

Travel between Manchester and Scotland
A ban on non-essential travel between Scotland and Manchester and Salford has come into force. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the restriction on Friday, saying it was because of high levels of Covid in the area.
Risk of Covid-19 infection plummets 21 days after a vaccination
The chance of getting covid-19 after being vaccinated drops sharply 21 days following a first dose, new analysis suggests. People who become infected post-vaccination are also less likely to have symptoms than those who test positive for the virus and haven’t been jabbed.
The findings, released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), are based on a sample of adults who had received a coronavirus vaccine up to 31 May.

79% of adults in the Stockport area have had 1st dose vaccine (17th July data) and 58% have had 2nd dose. Between 14th June 2021 and 20th June 2021, 572 people had a confirmed positive test result in Stockport. This shows a decrease of -14.2% compared to the previous 7 days.
In Stockport 198,261 people had been given a first dose by the end of 19 June 2021.

Director of Public Health: Delta variant accounts for 98% of Stockport’s Covid-19 cases
Stockport’s Director of Public Health, Jennifer Connolly, has warned that the highly transmissible Delta variant accounts for 98% of Covid-19 cases in Stockport, with the disease spreading most in unvaccinated groups.
Stockport has the lowest infection rate in the region
The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 829 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 12 per cent in the last week. The infection rate is higher than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester. Stockport, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 589 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending June 16, which is 91 fewer than the previous seven days

RETAIL:
The Office for National Statistics said sales fell most significantly at food stores as consumers took advantage of Covid restrictions being lifted in the hospitality sector to eat out.
In contrast, sales at non-food shops rose on demand for outdoor furniture.
The proportion of online sales dipped as people returned to physical shops.
It is the third month in a row that the proportion of online sales has fallen, but the ONS said they “remain nearly 60% higher than the level seen in February 2020” before the pandemic.

easyJet has put two new domestic flights and more seats on sale today from Manchester to Scotland to serve demand for domestic travel. Stockport Council details of Government’s Restart Grant
The Restart Grant scheme supports businesses in the non-essential retail, hospitality, leisure, personal care and accommodation sectors with a one-off grant, to reopen safely as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
Applications close on 30 June 2021
The Restart Grant will be split into two strands:
– Strand one will be for non-essential retail businesses that may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £6,000.
– Strand two will be for hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym businesses that may be entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £18,000.
Strand 1 Businesses that have a rateable value:
- of £15,000 or less on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £2,667
- between £15,001 and £50,999 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £4,000
- of £51,000 or more on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £6,000
Strand 2 Businesses that have a rateable value:
- of £15,000 or less on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £8,000
- between £15,001 and £50,999 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £12,000

Coronavirus Roadmap out of lockdown – what and when?
From 29 March:
- People will be allowed to meet outside, either with one other household or within the “rule of six”, including in private gardens
- The stay at home rule will end, but the government will urge people to stay local as much as possible
- Outdoor sport facilities will reopen, including golf courses and tennis and basketball courts, and formally organised outdoor sports can restart
- Weddings attended by up to six people can take place in any circumstances
Stage two (no earlier than 12 April):
- All shops allowed to open, along with close-contact services, including hairdressers and beauty salons (including in people’s homes)
- Restaurants and pubs allowed to serve food and alcohol to customers sitting outdoors Gyms and spas can reopen, as can zoos, theme parks, libraries and community centres
- Members of the same household can take a holiday in the UK in self-contained accommodation
- Weddings attended by up to 15 people can take place
Stage three (no earlier than 17 May):
- People can meet in groups of up to 30 outdoors
- Six people or two households can meet indoors
- Pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues can seat customers indoors
- Up to 30 people can attend weddings or other life events, like christenings
- Remaining outdoor entertainment, such as outdoor theatres and cinemas can open
- Indoor entertainment such as museums, theatres, cinemas and children’s play areas can open
- Performances and large events can restart, but with limits on audience numbers
- Hotels, hostels and B&Bs can reopen
- International leisure travel may resume
- Adult indoor group sports and exercise classes can restart
Stage four (no earlier than 21 June):
- All legal limits on social contact will be removed
- No legal limits on the number of people who can attend weddings, funerals and other life events
- Nightclubs will be allowed to reopen

Repayment period for Bounce Back Loans extended to ten years
Businesses that took out government Bounce Back loans to help them through the Coronavirus crisis now have more time to repay. Companies will be contacted with options to extend the length of the loan from six to 10 years as part of a new ‘pay-as-you-grow’ initiative. The new proposals give businesses three new options:
- Extending the length of the loan from six years to 10;
- Making interest-only payments for six months, then repaying the principal on a phased basis with other interest-only periods;
- Delaying repayments entirely for up to six months.

• Monday – Thursday from 9am to 5pm
• Friday from 9am to 4.30pm
• Saturdays from 10am to 1pm
