Aldi exploring Stockport sites as part of 50-store North-west expansion

German supermarket chain, Aldi, has revealed it is exploring sites in Stockport as part of ongoing expansion plans in the region.

The chain, which has 900 stores in the UK, is planning to continue its expansion with an additional 50 stores across the North-west.

The brand is looking to open new stores in freehold town-centre or edge-of-centre sites across the region. In Stockport, Aldi is interested in new sites in in Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green, Handforth and Hazel Grove on top of the towns four existing branches of the supermarket.

Suitable sites for the chain will be approximately 1.5 acres with room for a 20,000 sq ft store and around 100 parking spaces, ideally located on a main road to ensure access and visibility.

Ciaran Aldridge, national property director at Aldi UK, said:

We have been investing in Britain for more than 30 years now, but we know that there are still areas that either do not have an Aldi at all, or that need another store to meet customer demand.

“Shoppers are increasingly looking to get unbeatable prices on their weekly shop without compromising on quality. That’s why, more so than ever, we’re keen to explore all opportunities to open new stores across the country.”
