Plans for a 135,000 sq ft warehouse on the site of the former UK headquarters of chemicals firm, BASF, have been approved by Stockport Council.
Developers PIN Property submitted plans for the site in Cheadle in July 2021. The developers acquired the site from BASF for around £6 million in January 2020, following the German chemical company’s move from Cheadle to 2 Stockport Exchange in the town centre.
Councillors on Stockport’s Planning & Highways Regulation Committee met on Thursday 10th February and approved the plans unanimously following the recommendation of planning officers and on the basis that no objections to the scheme had been submitted.
The former BASF offices sit within an already established area of commercial and industrial complexes on the existing Stanley Green industrial area, with access from the nearby A555 Manchester Airport link road providing good access to the motorway network and A34 and A6 trunk roads.
PIN Property have proposed demolishing the existing vacant office building and constructing in its place a warehouse and distribution facility with a footprint of 135,000 sq ft on the 2.8 hectare site. Given the scale of the development, PIN Properties have proposed the use of composite cladding in a range of colours and patterns to break up the visual mass of the building and take design cues from existing commercial schemes on Stanley Green Business Park.
Plans propose a single, open warehouse with loading bays for HGV access. Around 10,000 sq ft of office space for is also included in the designs, alongside parking for 280 staff.
