Joe Barratt, organiser of The Teenage Market which took place in Stockport yesterday (Sunday 27 April), this week encouraged young people to register to vote ahead of the local Council and European elections on Thursday May 22nd.
Sunday’s event also featured the Key 103 Radio Bus (above) which promoted the importance of people registering to vote and having their say.
Joe Barratt said afterwards:
“I’d actively encourage young people from all over Stockport to make their voice heard on May 22nd and cast a vote in the local and European elections”.
Registering to vote can be important if you need to get credit. It can affect your credit rating and you could experience problems getting loans, finance agreements and mobile phone contracts if you don’t register.
Time is running out to register! If you are aged 18 and over by 22nd May and are not on the current electoral register, the last day to register in time for both elections is Tuesday 6th May. People must be on the current electoral register to vote.
There are three ways to obtain a registration form:
– Download the form at www.stockport.gov.uk/registertovote
– Phone the elections hotline 0161 217 6026 from Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5pm (4.30pm on Friday)
– Pick up a form from the Elections Office in Stockport Town Hall (entrance on Lacy Street off Edward Street), Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (Friday 4.30pm)
