Contractor John Southworth and Viaduct Housing are continuing with the restoration of Battersby Hat Factory, beginning work on a project that will transform the iconic mills into 45 new homes.
Once complete, the development will deliver 15 houses, 16 apartments, and 13 mews properties, all to be released as affordable housing while preserving the local heritage site.
The Mills is the focal point to what will be Viaduct Housing’s largest development since its establishment: the housebuilder is a development partnership between Stockport Homes and Stockport Council, focused on building more affordable homes. The entire scheme will provide 144 homes in total, including a variety of neighbouring new-build homes to the rear of the Battersby Hat Factory site that customers have already started to occupy.
Three Sixty, a profit-for-purpose construction company and part Stockport Homes Group, are continuing works on these remaining new-build properties.
John Bowker, Executive Director of Operations at Stockport Homes Group said:
“We’re delighted to be working alongside John Southworth to deliver a range of modern, high-quality homes. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise that will carry this project forward and bring the mills back to life for new homeowners to enjoy.”
Steven Brown, Director at John Southworth said:
“We’re proud to be working on a project that has played such a historic part in Stockport’s industrial story. This phase of the build will create new homes that complement the significance of the building, and the local communities that kept the boroughs famous hat making tradition alive for so many years.”
