Stockport has gone ‘Krazy’ for a free to attend soap-box derby coming to the town centre next year, with a quarter of entries already in just a week since first being announced.
Organised by Stockport town centre’s Business Improvement District company, Totally Stockport, in partnership with Krazy Races, the event, set to take place on Sunday 28th May 2022, was launched at Stockport Makers Market just over a week ago. Krazy Races events in Shropshire and Northwich this year have helped attract thousands of spectators and raised significant funds for local charities.
The race route will be through St Peter’s Square, down into Mersey Square past the iconic Plaza building, where racers will have to navigate a sharp right toward Stockport’s famous Air Raid Shelters, as well as chicanes and other obstacles all along the route. Organisers are looking for between 20-40 teams to enter the race in a knockout style competition with multiple trophies and local businesses are being encouraged to submit teams to help support local causes being supported on the day, as well as to bring their staff together to build and race their own soap-box cars.

Krazy Races are also looking to work with local sponsors and businesses to bring together local entertainers, food stalls and more to give families a fantastic day to remember.
Danny Scoffin, Head of Marketing for Krazy Races said:
“We have been blown away by the early enthusiasm of this event, since launching last Saturday our social media has gone ‘KRAZY’ with businesses, charities and teams expressing an interest to be involved. To have a quarter of our 40 teams in the first week is a phenomenal achievement and we would like to thank our headline sponsors Totally Stockport for all their amazing support helping us get the word out. This event brings together the whole town and it gives businesses a great platform to show off their fantastic business while raising money for incredible local causes while having a team building day out they will never forget.”
Teams and spectators are encouraged to raise as much money as possible for charity and later this year the event will announce its official Totally Stockport Krazy Races headline charity.
Applications for teams are open and organisers are encouraging you to enter as soon as possible to avoid disappointment via the Krazy Races website.
