The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities is to receive £6.1 million to help deliver the Government’s Green Deal home energy efficiency improvement programme, in the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester.
The scheme will be rolled out on a street-by-street basis to help two thousand households in Greater Manchester install energy efficiency home improvements like solid wall insulation and new heating systems so that they have warm, more energy efficient homes and better control of their energy bills.
Greater Manchester has recently announced a new Green Deal delivery partnership with Keepmoat Regeneration, Wates Living Space and Willmott Dixon. They will be working on the Green Deal Communities scheme, helping to kick-start GM’s wider Green Deal programme and unlocking the benefits that energy home improvements can provide to residents.
The Greater Manchester scheme will focus on providing a network of demonstration homes in priority areas across the boroughs, allowing residents to see and understand first hand retrofit improvements in their local neighbourhood. Residents who participate in Green Deal Communities will receive funding to incentivise home energy improvements.
Paul Lawrence, Corporate Director for Place Management and Regeneration said,
“Improving energy efficiency in Stockport is a huge opportunity to help residents lower their energy bills and stay warm all year round. The extra funding will allow Stockport to work closely with our recently appointed preferred energy efficiency delivery partner, Wates, to develop initiatives that will help to reduce domestic energy usage and ensure Stockport residents can afford to heat their home.”
The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities is one of 24 Local Authorities to be offered a share of £88 million from the Government under the Green Deal Communities scheme. This figure includes additional support for installer training to help build supply chain readiness.
