Success for first cohort of One Stockport Health and Social Care Career Academy students

Students in the first cohort of learners at the One Stockport Health and Social Care Career Academy are celebrating completing the three week programme, with seven having already secured job offers as a result.

Delivered by the Trafford & Stockport College Group in partnership with Stockport Council and a range of local employers, the academy was created to strengthen the regional care workforce. It provides a clear, supportive, and accessible pathway into rewarding health and social care careers across Greater Manchester.

A total of 16 learners completed the first programme, which included accredited training, personalised employment support and ‘dating style’ interview opportunities with employers across the sector.

Gareth Burrows, Director of Curriculum for Industry Partnership and Skills at Trafford & Stockport College Group, said:

“The Health and Social Care Academy is already delivering on its promise, connecting adults to meaningful careers, responding directly to employer needs, and strengthening the future workforce across Stockport and the wider Greater Manchester region.

“By creating a clear and supported pathway into the sector, we are helping to tackle critical skills shortages and build a sustainable pipeline of skilled, compassionate professionals.”

Employer involvement has been strong throughout, with 8 local organisations engaging in interviews and recruitment activity. Five job offers were made on the day, followed by two additional offers the following week.

Results highlight the powerful impact of joint working between Trafford & Stockport College Group, Stockport Council, and local employers in helping to build a skilled, resilient workforce for the future.
