The 22 giant frogs that made up Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail throughout the summer have hopped out of Stockport to prepare for pastures and ponds new!
18 of the original frogs will be sold at auction this Thursday evening, 17th October, before hopping off to new homes.
The live auction, conducted Stockport based Simon Charles Auctioneers and who are taking no fee for their services, will take place at LSH Auto’s new Mercedes-Benz showroom in Stockport.
Online commission bids can be made at Simon Charles website ahead of the auction.
All proceeds are in aid of Stepping Hill Hospital’s Tree House children’s ward who are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and need to upgrade their facilities.
Tens of thousands of people of all ages completed the trail over the summer months that saw the weekly number of people visiting Stockport town centre increase by over 30%.
Sponsored by local businesses, the frogs were the brainchild of Totally Stockport, the team from Stockport’s Business Improvement District.
Totally Stockport’s manager Paul Taylor said:
“The frog art trail has been a massive success for Stockport, better than we ever envisaged. As part of the Giant Leap Frog legacy, we want to raise as much as possible to give to The Tree House at Stepping Hill. Most local families may at some time benefit from the care provided there so we feel it is a fitting end to the 2019 frog project”.
“It’s going to be sad to see the frogs leave but we have plans for the future!”
Anyone who would like to attend the auction for a chance to buy one of the 18 fantastic frogs, or just watch them go under the hammer, can register here £5 fee includes welcome drink and canapés.
