Stockport is set to come alive with colour, music and spooky celebrations on Saturday 25th October as the town transforms into a vibrant carnival for Merseyday of the Dead.
Inspired by the traditions of Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos and blended with a sprinkle of Halloween mischief, the event will be filled with free family-friendly fun, from dazzling trick-or-treat trails to sugar skull crafts, glitter makeovers, parades, games and a disco for dancing skeletons of all ages.
The celebrations begin at Merseyway from 12pm – 3pm, where children can collect a map outside Specsavers before setting off on the Skullstock trick-or-treat trail. Along the way, little calaveras will encounter fun Day of the Dead characters and collect tricks and treats to brighten their journey.
Children will also be able to take part in a free craft event where they can create their very own sugar skull keyring to take home as a special keepsake, while glitter tattoos and spirit animal designs will add extra sparkle to the day.
As the sun sets, the spirits rise over at Redrock Stockport, which will be reborn as Deadrock for one night only. From 5pm – 7pm, the party will burst into life with a night-time trick or treat trail, where visitors can expect spooktacular performances from a Mexican folk dance group, an unmissable Day of the Dead parade, a Day of the Dead inspired disco, live DJs, fun games and competitions to keep everyone on their toes.
Full of rhythm and colour, Redrock will light up with swirling skirts, painted skulls and the beating heart of Mexico, while families are encouraged to join the celebrations in skeleton face paint and dazzling costumes, or their favourite Halloween attire.
Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager said,
“Over the years, our free-to-attend Trick or Treat event has become a real staple for Halloween in Stockport, and we’re thrilled to bring it back with a vibrant new theme. Merseyday of the Dead is set to be our most colourful celebration yet, and we can’t wait to see families join us in their costumes, collecting badges for their lanyards, and making magical memories together – it’s going to be a fiesta to remember!”.
