Deanprint, a specialist printer, finisher and bookbinder based in Stockport, has been acquired by the Eccles-headquartered Manchester Printers Group (MPG).
The acquisition is MPG’s fourth in four months and will bring the group’s annual turnover to £7 million. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
Deanprint will continue to trade under its current branding, with no changes to staffing levels; the existing management team will also stay on in their roles. MPG Operations Director, David Whittles commented:
“There’s basically no change. We didn’t really go in to change the business.
“Deanprint will operate the way it has always operated – we’re not going to change something that works.”
The Stockport printer was established in 1890 and employs 40 people at its site on Stockport Road, Cheadle. The takeover means Deanprint staff now make up around half of MPG’s total headcount. The business, which specialises in print finishing and bookbinding, will complement the services of the other printers in the wider group. David Whittles continued:
“We’re looking for diversity, more than anything. We are obviously looking for niche businesses.
“There’s not a lot of companies out there that do everything. What we’re trying to do is control that cost of manufacture – you have to be very savvy in the way that you do things.”
Deanprint joins Manchester Printers, Allenco, Jameson Print Finishers, Berkeley Business Forms, Chelma Graphics, Signature Printing and HCM Commercial Printers as part of the group, which is set to continue making further acquisitions.
Deanprint was advised in the acquisition by Cole Associates Corporate Finance; LLM Solicitors and Bennett Briegal advised MPG.
