An exciting new concept of a community store based in Hanover Towers, Lancashire Hill, called Penny Lane Pantry has been praised by a local MP.
Ann Coffey MP was shown around the pantry and met volunteers Leanne Benfold and Agnes Harrison, along with Anna Jones, Stockport Homes’ Food Sharing Officer.
Ann Coffey MP said:
“This is such an affordable scheme,
and I can see why it’s already so
popular in Lancashire Hill. When I was
in the Pantry there was a wide choice of
everyday supermarket items, as well as
chilled and frozen food and fresh fruit
and veg. I do hope that Stockport
Homes can go further and expand the
scheme when they have reached their
target of 100 local members.”
Anna Jones, Food Sharing Officer, Stockport Homes said,
“It was fantastic to be able to show Ann Coffey MP around Penny Lane Pantry and explain how the store works. The pantry is proving a real hit with customers and we now have 96 members who pay a weekly membership of £2 in order to access to discounted food items worth at least £15.”
