Stockport based Millie’s Trust is to offer free first aid training to more than 500 schoolchildren in Macclesfield thanks to a £2,500 donation.
Bollington Insurance Brokers chose to give Stockport charity Millie’s Trust £2,500 they won in a charity prize draw run by Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.
Schools can apply now to receive one day of first aid training, which will be split into a morning session and an afternoon session of approximately 30 children each.
The training, which will cover basic life support skills and how to use a defibrillator, will be available to pupils in Year 5 and above at primary and secondary schools with a Macclesfield postcode.
Schools can email Millie’s Trust to apply. Emails must be sent from a school email address and applications must be made by Sunday, 9th July, 2017. The draw will be made the following day and the successful schools will be contacted by the 14th July to arrange the training days. The training must be taken by 15th December, 2017.
Millie’s Trust chief executive, Joanne Thompson, said:
“Millie’s Trust is extremely proud to have been given the opportunity to train over 500 children in the Macclesfield area in 2017 thanks to the generosity of Bollington and Ecclesiastical. We are looking forward to teaching the children essential basic life support skills; something that we strongly believe should be on the school curriculum.”
Bollington Insurance Brokers Commercial Director, Carl Shaw, said:
“We are delighted to have the chance to support a very worthy local charity with financial backing from our friends at Ecclesiastical Insurance. Giving children first aid training at the earliest opportunity provides them with a skill that can save lives.”
Millie’s Trust was established by Joanne and Dan Thompson following the loss of their daughter Millie in a choking incident at nursery in October 2012.
Millie’s Trust believes everyone should have access to First Aid Training and its aim is to make First Aid Training readily available at minimal cost and in as many places as possible. Millie’s Trust wants everyone to be able to learn the skills to enable them to save a life. Millie’s Trust provides free First Aid awareness courses to expectant parents, parents who have a child under the age of 12 months, or parents who are struggling to find the funds to attend.
The Trust also provides a low cost level 3 12-hour Paediatric First Aid qualification to childcare providers to ensure more staff become trained. Millie’s Mark, the new quality mark for excellence in Paediatric First Aid for early years settings, was created by the Department for Education following a very successful petition by Millie’s parents and is being administered by the National Day Nurseries Association.
