‘None For The Road’ – this is the message of this year’s Christmas Drink Drive campaign as Stockport motorists are warned about the consequences of being caught driving over the limit.
Stockport Council’s Road Safety Team is launching its campaign on Saturday 23rd November with an event on Warren Street (outside Laura Ashley) in the Town Centre.
The Council’s Road Safety Team, along with Greater
Manchester Fire and Rescue and Greater Manchester Police
will be on hand to advise members of the public about staying
safe on the road over the festive season.
Information will be on offer to help people plan ahead, so they
have a designated driver or taxi and public transport options
available to them.
At the event people will also be able to try-out a driving simulator,
testing their driving skills whilst sober and under the influence of
alcohol using specially designed ‘beer goggles’.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Stockport Council’s Executive Member
for Economic Development and Regeneration, said:
“Stockport’s message is very simple, if you are planning to drive,
don’t drink any alcohol as there is no fail-safe guide as to how
much you can drink and stay under the legal limit. It’s also
important to be aware that whilst you may feel OK in the morning,
you may still be over the legal alcohol limit or unfit to drive.
It’s impossible to get rid of alcohol any faster. A shower, cup of coffee, or other ways of ‘sobering up’ will not help – it just takes time.”
