Stockport Homes hoping to SHINE at awards evening

Stockport Homes’ SHINE project has been shortlisted for ‘Sustainable Project of the Year’ at this year’s Builder and Engineer Awards.

Now in its ninth year, the Builder and Engineer Awards has been established as one of the most prestigious events on the construction professional’s calendar. 

Stockport Homes fitted almost 2,000 properties with solar panels at a cost of £10m. These works have had a direct impact on the fight to tackle fuel poverty. This is one of the largest projects of its kind in the country.

Following the successful delivery of this project, Stockport Homes were requested to project manage and install solar PV modules to 30 buildings owned by Stockport MBC. These included administration buildings, leisure centres and schools.

Speaking of the shortlisting Jon Blackwell, Head of Investment said: “ We also recognise that simply fitting these systems is not enough. Stockport Homes fully embrace environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable living which addresses fuel poverty for our customers. We have also created an Environmental and Energy Team responsible for our energy portfolio, control of carbon footprint, ownership of the Environmental Management System (ISO14001 and the development of renewable technology projects and waste management initiatives.” 

The winner of award will be announced on the 31 October 2012 at Lancashire County Cricket Ground.
