The Houses of Parliament was the destination for a recent visit by a group of local school children, thanks to Stockport County Community Trust.
Pupils from St Mary’s Primary School in Heaton Norris, alongside the Trust’s Head of Inclusion & Participation Daniel Landstrom and Social Inclusion Manager Matthew Bailey, were given a guided tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords by the MP for Stockport, Navendu Mishra.
The trip was funded thanks to Great Places Housing Group. The non-profit housing provider is a significan social landlord in Stockport after merging with Equity Housing in 2020, and is currently bringing forward a number of developments of affordable homes in Stockport within the Town Centre West regeneration area.
The trip also gave children the chance to pose questions to their MP about issues affecting their school and community. These included: “Do you think it would be possible to have more play equipment for pre-school children to develop their gross motor skills at our local parks?”; “Why are Dodge Hill and Roman Road so bumpy, and how can it be fixed?” and “Are train prices going to come down?”
Social Inclusion Manager from Stockport County Community Trust, Matthew Bailey, said:
“I’d like to express my gratitude to Great Places for providing the funding that enabled this incredible visit to London, and I’d also to thank Navendu and his team who were fantastic hosts throughout the afternoon.
“It was a rare opportunity to explore one of the most famous institutions in the world, and it will have no doubt created lifelong memories for these young people.”
