Stockport County Community Trust is delivering a new training and skills programme for unemployed adults who aspire to work in football.
Funded by the UK Government through Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Adult Learning Within Reach (WEA), the Get Into Football programme aims to help individuals to overcome barriers that prevent them engaging with education, training or employment.
The eight-week course, based at Edgeley Park’s Skills Hub, will provides participants with an insight into several departments across the Club, including coaching, catering, facilities, human resources and ground maintenance. Classroom-based learning will run in tandem with practical workshops and mentoring sessions delivered by Stockport County staff and give people an understanding of the club’s day-to-day operations.
Sessions will take place every Monday between 2pm and 4pm, commencing on 2nd December.
Programme co-ordinator, Mark Ward, commented:
“Get Into Football is a really exciting initiative that aims to use the power of football and the pull of Stockport County to help individuals improve their skills and progress into the workplace.
“We fully appreciate that many local people face barriers to employment, for a variety of reasons. Hopefully this course will help to address those issues, identify their skills and increase their opportunities.”
