Stockport Council is consulting on a draft Education Contributions SPD that will provide planning officers with guidance on how to seek developer contributions to support education.
The council has a statutory duty to ensure there are enough school places within the borough to meet its educational needs, and development of new homes can increase the need to additional school places.
The new draft Education Contributions SPD proposes how and when the council will ask for financial contributions towards new education facilities when new housing developments are expected to create an impact on local schools. The document also details how developer contributions will be calculated when needed to support education provision and new facilities in Stockport.
The public consultation seeks to hear views from residents, and others affected by the proposals, who can comment on all aspects of the SPD and associated documents.
The draft document is available to read online in full on Stockport Council’s consultation website, as well as in person at the One Stockport Hub and all libraries across Stockport, during staffed hours.
Responses can be made online, by post or by email. All responses must be received before 23:59pm on 25 October 2023, when the consultation will close.
