Stockport parents are being given greater choice of where they register the birth of their children.
As well as being able to register the birth in Stockport Council’s Register Office in the Town Hall they can also do this at the Council run Abacus Children’s Centre in Adswood.
Employees at the Council run Children’s Centre have undertaken training to offer the new birth registration service for parents.
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“I’m delighted that we are now able to offer this service for parents at the Abacus Children’s Centre. By registering their child’s birth at the Children Centre, parents will be able to see first-hand what support and services are available to them both locally and across the borough.”

Initially the service will be available by appointment every Thursday afternoon at Abacus Children’s Centre at 120 Garners Lane, Adswood in Stockport.
Future consideration will be given to expanding the service to other children centres across the borough.
