Stockport-based hearing technology manufacturer, Starkey, has waved farewell to two long-serving colleagues, Russell and Tony, who have collectively worked for the business for nearly 75 years.
Russell – 47 Years of Dedication
Retiring from Starkey after an astonishing 47 years, is Russell, who has been part of the company since its beginning in the UK. Over the years, he has played a vital role in shaping the business, witnessing first-hand how both Starkey and the hearing industry have evolved.
Among his many achievements, Russell qualified as a Hearing Aid Dispenser, a milestone that took great effort, hard work, and study—something he looks back on with immense pride. He was also part of a defining moment in Starkey’s history: the introduction of Starkey’s first-ever computer system. In true Starkey style, the screen and keyboard arrived six weeks before the computer itself, making for an amusing and memorable start to the digital age! Another highlight of his career was visiting Starkey’s Head Office in the USA, an experience that left a lasting impression.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Russell has been a supportive and friendly presence, known for his positive attitude, willingness to help others, and great sense of humor. His advice for success is simple but invaluable:
- Listen more and speak less.
- Work hard and keep a positive outlook.
- Come to work intending to enjoy yourself.
- Make an effort to build strong relationships with colleagues.
- Take every opportunity to learn.
As he embarks on his well-earned retirement, Russell plans to focus on home and garden projects before exploring opportunities for voluntary work—a testament to his continued drive to make a difference.
Tony – 25 Years of Passion and Creativity
Alongside Russell, Starkey have also bid farewell to Tony, who has dedicated 25 years to Starkey. Over the years, Tony has made a huge contribution to the company and built strong relationships with both colleagues and customers. His expertise, dedication, and passion for helping people hear better have made him a valued member of the team, and he will be greatly missed.
Tony is about to embark on an exciting new chapter—one filled with travel and photography, two of his biggest passions. Tony is a hugely talented photographer, particularly when it comes to capturing live music, and his work photographing bands and singers is nothing short of incredible. With more time on his hands, he’ll now have the opportunity to travel more, immerse himself in music, and take even more stunning shots. His Starkey colleagues can’t wait to see where this next adventure takes him!
