Over 375 Central Stockport residents attended a ‘You Say We Pay’ event to have their say on how local money should be spent in the area.
The event, held in the Town Hall on Saturday 1st December, was organised by Stockport Council and partners.
The Christmas-themed event gave local groups the chance to put forward ideas that will benefit the area. Local residents then make the decisions on which one’s they think will make a difference.
Instead of just being able to vote at the event on the day like previous years residents were also able to cast their vote by either visiting the voting road shows at locations throughout the Central area, by telephoning or voting online. This new approach led to a record total of 450 local people taking part in the voting process to decide how the money should be spent.
Councillor Mark Weldon, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Supporting Communities, said: “’You Say We Pay’ events provide an excellent opportunity for residents to support the funding of projects which improves their community.”
A total of 22 projects were awarded a share of the £47,500. Funding for the You Say We Pay’ event came from Stockport Council, Stockport Homes and Community First.
