Some of Stockport’s newest residents joined CityRise and its delivery partners to celebrate the official opening of the Interchange apartments last week, with a party at the award-winning scheme.
Guests joined Cityheart and its joint venture partner Rise Homes (CityRise), together with representatives from GMCA, Stockport Council, Stockport MDC, TfGM and Willmott Dixon to celebrate the official opening of Stockport’s landmark residence which sits above the new transport interchange for the town.
Since the 196-unit build to rent scheme completed in May over 150 of the 1- and 2-bedroom apartments are now let or reserved and any of the residents joined the team to celebrate the opening.
Interchange Apartments was formally opened by the Mayor of Stockport Suzanne Wyatt followed by an afternoon of entertainment, music, food and drinks in the private garden and adjacent park. The entertainment was organised by Strawberry Radio’s Paul Taylor, who coordinates many events across Stockport including ‘Hits on the Pitch’ – Stockport’s popular annual music festival.
Commenting on behalf of CityRise, Nigel Rawlings said:
“Our expectations of the likely demand were high given the quality of the apartments and how spacious they are, however those expectations were quickly surpassed. The apartments have been completed to an excellent standard, providing high quality, spacious accommodation which is proving very popular with people looking to rent.
“We have deliberately created shared accessible space to enhance residents’ lives with an external private garden in addition to the amazing public park. Demand has been very high, illustrated by the fact that over 150 apartments are now occupied or reserved. The Interchange has certainly set a new benchmark in residential living in Stockport and we are incredibly proud that it is playing a role in the renaissance of this fantastic town.
“We’re delighted that so many people were able to join us to celebrate the opening – it was great to meet many of the residents who are now enjoying their new homes and to hear from them what it is they love about living at The Interchange and in Stockport.”
Over 80 of the new residents joined the partners involved in the scheme for the celebratory events.
One resident, who has moved to Stockport from Pakistan with her family, said they were “thoroughly enjoying their new home and were delighted with the high-quality accommodation and amenities available so close by. We had previously looked at renting in Manchester but were impressed in what Stockport had to offer.”
The Interchange Apartments sit alongside the town’s state-of-the-art transport hub, a link bridge to the train station, a cycle path to the river Mersey and Interchange Park, a new two-acre town centre park.
Built by Willmott Dixon Stockport Interchange is a joint venture between Stockport Council, Stockport MDC, Transport for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in conjunction with development partner, CityRise (a joint venture partnership between Cityheart and Rise Homes).
The Interchange project has also won multiple awards since its completion including the ‘Community Impact of the year’ category at Cowgills North West Homebuilders Awards and ‘Best Funding Structure’ at The International Partnership Awards.
