Plans have been submitted to Stockport Council for significant apartment scheme on the site of the former Sainsbury’s store, which will create over 500 new homes in the town centre.
Amstone Ventures confirmed their acquisition of the 3.28 acre plot in March this year, with the intention of redeveloping the superstore for build-to-rent apartments; Sainsbury’s closed the supermarket in January after 35 years trading from the site.
The Hale-based developers have submitted a formal application to redevelop the site, and if approved, will deliver a £100 million development, No. 1 Knightsbridge, comprising 563 new homes, a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, as well as townhouses. Apartments will be situated in buildings of up to 15 storeys, and surrounded by communal gardens and green space.
Martin Halsey, operations director of Amstone, said:
“Stockport is a town centre that is changing rapidly and we’re excited to be part of it with such a significant site, close to the historic town centre.
“We can see a vibrant and buzzing residential community forming as a number of schemes come together to contribute to Stockport’s ambitious residential plan.”
Should planning permission be approved for the development, construction on No.1 Knightsbridge could begin by the end of 2022.
Amstone are supported on the development by the same partners as delivered a similar sized build-to-rent scheme at Salford Quays: architects Leach Rhodes Walker, landscape architects Layer.Studio, structural engineers RoC Consulting, planning consultants from Deloitte and cost consultant Cumming Group.
