Plans for 124 new homes on the former Seashell Trust campus in Heald Green have taken a step forward following approval by Stockport Council’s Cheadle Area Committee.
Councillors representing the local community were recommended to approve the scheme, which makes up the second and final phase of development on land previously owned by the Seashell Trust charity. The organisation, which provides specialist education to children and young people with complex needs, sold part of its campus in 2020 to support the construction of its new Moulding Foundation Building and other purpose-built facilities for students.
Plans for the site, being developed by Bloor Homes, propose 124 new homes, comprising a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, and associated green spaces. 40 of the proposed homes are also set to be made available through a mix of social rent and shared ownership schemes, managed by Great Places Housing Group.
An earlier phase of development by Bloor Homes on the site is delivering 202 homes, including 57 affordable homes. Plans follow reserved planning permission for housing development on the former Seashell Trust site, which was granted by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government at appeal in 2020. In total, Bloor Homes will deliver around 325 new homes on the site, as well as over five acres of green space for local residents.
Following approval by the Cheadle Area Committee, the planning application will now progress to Stockport Council’s planning committee for the final say.
