
Eamonn Boylan, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and interim chair of Stockport MDC, was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award at Insider’s North West Residential Property Awards in recognition of his 42-year career in local government.
Eamonn Boylan was appointed Chief Executive of GMCA in January 2017, a combined local authority consisting of ten metropolitan borough councils in Greater Manchester, along with various other stakeholders. The authority is responsible for strategic decision-making on issues that affect the Greater Manchester region, such as transport, economic development, and housing. As the Chief Executive, Eamonn chairs the Greater Manchester Wider Leadership Team and has responsibility for Policy & Strategy and a wide range of Greater Manchester services including Fire and Rescue, Waste, Transport (where he overseen the launch of the Bee Network as Chief Executive of TfGM), Economic Development and Planning. He also is jointly accountable for the Greater Manchester Strategic Plan for the transformation of Health and Social Care. He is currently acting Chair of Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), the body accelerating the town’s £500 million regeneration of the Town Centre West area to deliver over 5,000 new homes.
Prior to joining GMCA, Eamonn was Chief Executive of Stockport MBC from 2011 to 2017 where he led the Council’s £1 billion programme of investment in infrastructure and town centre regeneration. Previous roles include Deputy Chief Executive of both the Homes and Communities Agency (responsible for all national regeneration programmes) and Manchester City Council where he led the Regeneration Division and helped shape Strategic Regeneration programmes across the city.
Last year he was awarded an OBE for his achievements in local government, and announced his intentions to retire, effective following the upcoming May 2024 Local and Mayoral Elections.
Eamonn Boylan was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the annual Insider’s North West Residential Property Awards which took place in Manchester on the evening of 26th January. The annual awards celebrate the achievements of people and businesses in the region’s Built Environment sector.
Other winners on the night include regeneration specialists Muse, Stockport Council’s partner for the Stockport Exchange scheme, which won the Urban Developer of the Year award. The developer is on-site at a number of schemes across the Greater Manchester, and has recently completed the fourth phase of development at Stockport Exchange.
English Cities Fund, which recently unveiled its plans for 1,200 new homes on an eight-acre site within the Stockport MDC’s Town Centre West regeneration area at Stockport 8, also won the Sustainability Award for its Greenhaus scheme in Salford.
