Stockport’s NK Theatre Arts has won three categories, including Bets Show of the Year, at the 2017 Manchester Musical Awards.
The Awards, which recognises the achievements of musical societies and theatre companies in the Greater Manchester region, took place at The Victoria and Albert hotel in Manchester.
NK received a total of 14 nominations, more than any other society, for their productions of Monty Python’s Spamalot in September and Made in Dagenham in March.
The company landed three big awards on the night with The Best Director Award going to Hannah Gorst for her interpretation of Made in Dagenham; Made in Dagenham was also awarded the much coveted Best Show of the Year in Manchester.
As well as these two awards, NK was also awarded The Adjudicators Special Award. This is an award which can be given as seen fit by the Adjudicator without restrictions, which doesn’t fit into any of the categories judged for other awards. In a special pre-recorded message, this year’s Adjudicator John Wood decided to reward NK Theatre Arts for the amazing vibe he encountered when at The Forum this year as it was clear to him just what an incredible team ethic surrounds NK Theatre Arts.
NK’s Chairman Stuart Dean attended the awards and was delighted with the results:
“We are all absolutely thrilled for Hannah for her personal award, she certainly deserves that and to know that we once again have produced Manchester’s Best Show for Made in Dagenham makes everyone extremely proud and is testament to everyone involved in putting the show together.
“From a personal point of view, to be recognised by the Adjudicator as a whole organisation is absolutely thrilling. We are one massive team at NK. We put on productions, we provide a home for so many other community groups who use our theatre, we run all-inclusive theatre workshops, and outreach programmes in schools and this wouldn’t be possible without the countless number of volunteers we have from all the different parts of our organisation.
“It is the fourth time in five years that we have been given the Adjudicators award and we are delighted. So on behalf of all our Trustees, Tutors, Front of House Team, Backstage Crew and our Admin team we would like to thank the Manchester Musical Awards for their recognition this year and these awards really are the icing on the cake for our organisation and drive us on as we plan a busy year ahead for our 30th anniversary in 2018.”
